Payless ShoeSource now in the Philippines

Payless ShoeSource, the largest specialty footwear retailer in the Western Hemisphere, has entered into a partnership with Footwear Specialty Retailers, Inc. (FSRI), a division of retailing giant Stores Specialists, Inc., to open the first in a series of Philippine stores at the Filinvest Mall in Alabang later this month.

Offering a wide selection of stylish and value-priced branded footwear and accessory collections for women, men, and children, Payless is expected to be a hit with Filipinos for its mission to “democratize fashion and design in footwear and accessories and to inspire fun fashion possibilities for the family.”

“We’re very pleased to bring Payless to the Philippines,” said Crickette Tantoco, Marketing Communications Manager of FSRI, franchise partner of Payless ShoeSource. “Filipinos love shoes and are very style and value conscious, so the Payless mission of democratizing fashion by making the latest products and trends affordable and accessible to all is -- if you’ll pardon the pun -- a perfect fit.”

"We are thrilled to bring Payless and all it represents to the Philippine market," said Anthony Huang, executive vice president of Stores Specialists, Inc. "As a retailer and fashion brand, Payless is doing tremendous things for people across the globe with its mission to democratize fashion and design in footwear and accessories for all to enjoy. We believe this brand promise will do well here, as it has in the U.S. and other areas of the world."

Stores Specialists, Inc. is the leading fashion specialty retailer in the Philippines, managing over 70 international brands and 340 stores around the country.

This move marks the next stage of international growth for the Payless retail concept.  Payless, whose parent company is Collective Brands, Inc., recently launched stores in the Middle East and later this summer in Russia as well.

"The franchise model is proving to be the most efficient way to reach more international markets with the Payless brand and all it has to offer," said LuAnn Via, chief executive officer and president of Payless ShoeSource. “Payless brings the know-how in footwear specialty retailing, and our franchise partners like SSI bring its strong infrastructure and experience in the local region.”

"Filipino people love to shop and have a strong appetite for American brands, fashion and footwear and accessories. Together with SSI we are truly excited to bring the Payless brand to the Philippines and to affordably serve the footwear and accessory needs of families in the country."

At least eight more stores are planned to open within the year: at Shangri-La Plaza, SM Megamall, Ali Mall, Greenhills Shoppesville, Rockwell, Market! Market!, Robinsons Galleria, and Marquee Mall Pampanga.

“We’re confident that Payless will redefine shoe shopping for many shoe lovers,” said Crickette. “The combination of American style, great brands, quality, on-trend fashion and great prices is something that Filipinos have long been waiting for.”

ABOUT PAYLESS
Payless ShoeSource, Inc., a unit of Collective Brands, Inc., is the largest specialty family footwear retailer in the Western Hemisphere and is dedicated to democratizing fashion and design in footwear and accessories and inspiring fun, fashion possibilities for the family at a great value.  It was founded in 1956 as a pioneer in self-select shoe shopping and a strong focus on value pricing.

Payless has driven additional innovations like democratizing fashion; re-inventing self-select shoe shopping; offering an expanded range of licensed and owned brands; exclusive designer collections with NYC fashion designers, many of which show their collections -- including their Payless shoes -- at New York Fashion Week; and industry-leading customer service. Today, Payless has an extensive network of more than 4,500 stores in a variety of retail settings located in the U.S., as well as in Canada, Central and South America, the Caribbean, Puerto Rico, Guam, Saipan, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Middle East with stores soon in the Philippines and Russia.

BRAND PORTFOLIO
Recognizing that different customers have multi-faceted needs for style, expression, quality and value, Payless is committed to offering a wide selection of brands to connect and resonate with its diverse clientele.

Brands include Unforgettable Moments by Lela Rose, a women’s and girl’s line of special occasion footwear and accessories that celebrate life’s special milestones; Zoe & Zac, a fashion-forward line of stylish and affordable eco-friendly shoes and accessories, developed in collaboration with model and environmentalist Summer Rayne Oakes; and Airwalk, a youth-oriented lifestyle brand that captures the authentic appeal of the boardsport fashion culture.

Other brands in the Payless portfolio include Fioni, Smartfit and Dexter, among many others.

ACCESSORIES
Aside from footwear, Payless also carries a variety of accessories like stylish bags, hosiery, hats, belts, and jewelry. Many women coordinate their outfits from the shoes up, and by offering complementary accessories with their footwear, Payless provides its customers with a one-stop destination for creating a complete look and defining their own personal style.

STORE FORMAT

In addition to its merchandise, Payless also innovates with a unique retail store format. A display area at the front of the store captures the customer’s attention with product stories that showcase the latest shoe and accessory trends. At the back of the store, racks of shoes are sorted by size to allow customers to easily self-select the shoes they are looking for. This harmony helps give Payless customers a fun and inspiring shoe- shopping experience.

DESIGNERS FOR PAYLESS
True to its mission to democratize fashion, Payless has partnered with well-known American designers to create original footwear and accessory collections that embody high-fashion style and design, but at affordable prices for all to enjoy. These designer lines, available exclusively at Payless, complement the designers’ ready-to-wear seasonal collections and represent each designer’s unique signature style.

Isabel Toledo for Payless
Toledo, a global fashion icon, became an international household name last year for the "Lemongrass" Day Dress she designed for Michelle Obama to wear to her husband's inauguration. She is an inventor of many signature looks and has been described as a “cult figure” by the New York Times, one of the “100 designers that count” by Women's Wear Daily and “an important raw talent" by Vogue. Her designs have been sold in some of the most prestigious stores in the world such as Barneys New York, Nordstrom, Ikram in Chicago, Colette, Shiseido Ginza in Tokyo and Liberty of London. Toledo is well known for her fashion-forward, evolving design process rooted in the marriage of art, fashion and invention. Her approach and dedication to designing clothing -- and now shoes -- that are timeless and free of trends make her an iconic and free-thinking talent.

Christian Siriano for Payless
Hailed as "a prodigy" and "the next great American fashion designer" by Tim Gunn, Christian Siriano worked with punk legend Vivienne Westwood and fashion icon Alexander McQueen before rising to fame as a fan favorite designer and the youngest winner of Project Runway. He has also created a line of makeup for Victoria's Secret, partnered with Starbucks for a limited-edition holiday design collaboration, and signed on to design a full couture collection to appear in the film Eloise in Paris, starring Uma Thurman. Between his design projects, Christian has also written a style guide titled Fierce Style: How to Be Your Most Fabulous Self, now available in bookstores. Christian’s shoe and handbag collection for Payless is inspired by his runway and RTW lines.

Lela Rose for Payless
Famous for her classic-with-a-twist aesthetic, Texas native Lela Rose graduated from the Parsons School of Design and worked under fashion designers Christian Francis Roth and Richard Tyler before starting her own company. Her signature collection, known for intricately finished and finely detailed separates, dresses, and jackets, established her as a renowned designer, while her Lela Rose Wedding collection, a pairing of unconventional fabrics and techniques with couture sensibility, made her a well-known name in bridalwear. Her success with both collections led to a partnership with Payless, where she creates for Lela Rose for Payless and Unforgettable Moments. Her shoes and accessories for Payless reflect her philosophy of highly feminine designs that exude casual luxury and refinement.

Payless ShoeSource is located at: Festival Super Mall, Ali Mall, SM Mega Mall, Shangri-la Plaza Mall,  Greenhills Shoppesville, Market!Market!, Rockwell, Robinson’s Galleria and Marquee Mall.
