SIXTIES INSPIRED PAPERDOLLS AND WHARTON
6:53:00 PMTime travelling fashionisers had a splendid time as Paperdolls and Wharton presented their ‘60s inspired collections Summer 2011, featuring the designs of two of the country’s top designers, Kate Torralba and Rajo Laurel. A sartorial inspiration to men and women, the elements of the swinging sixties come to fore in a manner so chic it’s too hard to resist.
Once again, Paperdolls collaborated with designer Kate Torralba for a collection featuring shift dresses, shirts, wide-legged pants, and boxy jackets in a muted palette of black, white, and camel, which according to Kate is something people did not expect from her. But of course, what is a KT collection without her signature play on prints? Kate created a limited edition KT+PD print she calls “Flame.”
Made for fashion-forward men, Wharton worked with designer Rajo Laurel for his first all menswear collection. He took his inspiration from the youth spirit of the ‘60s and images of James Dean and Marlon Brandon. Key pieces such as sports jackets and fun shirts were given new proportions as well as a quirky design in unusual colors such as gold, silver, and bronze. Rajo also incorporated vintage tailoring in his new collection.
Paperdolls and Wharton Summer ’11 collection will be available exclusively at selected SM Department stores nationwide. Paperdolls by Kate Torralba S/S ’11 collection will be available at SM Makati, SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, SM North Edsa, SM Cubao, SM Fairview, and SM San Lazaro. Wharton by Rajo Laurel will be available by the third week of November at SM Makati, SM North Edsa, SM Mall of Asia, and SM Megamall.
