GUCCI - effortlessly now and forever
1:05:00 PMGucci Creative Director Frida Giannini presents a collection rooted in iconic items conceived as timeless cornerstones in a modern man’s wardrobe. The collection is informed by a duality which carefully balances the impeccable quality and exquisite craftsmanship for which Gucci is renowned with a contemporary discourse on innovative materials and modern styling. This collection centers around a worldly man, who has the confidence to break traditions in the way he pairs suiting and sportswear, casual and formal. The attitude is confident yet unrehearsed through which a new sophistication emerges. Impeccably crafted and minutely detailed, each piece has been conceived as a fashion evergreen, to be worn effortlessly now and forever.
SILHOUETTES
The collection is characterized by flawless sartorial workmanship, underscoring a sense of sophistication and elegance. The jacket, offered in traditional fabrics such as camel hair, herringbone or velvet, is rigorously cut to achieve a perfected and reduced silhouette. A new slim pant shape, inspired by the equestrian world, is cropped to the sockless ankle and worn with the newly interpreted Gucci classic horsebit loafer and oversized coats. The high level of workmanship is further revealed in fine details such as leather buttons, suede elbows, jacket linings with silk foulards inspired by vintage patterns, and even an unlined jacket whose entire internal seaming is covered in napa leather. Ties and some jacket linings feature micro prints of Gucci’s iconic horsebit and diamante pattern.
Underlying the classic tailoring is a sense of ease and nonchalance in the way items are paired: Double layers of soft cashmere V neck sweaters, silk turtlenecks and cashmere alpaca hand knit sweaters, are easily interchangeable pieces complemented by softly wrapped scarves.
MATERIALS
Highly researched, innovative techniques have been applied to signature materials culled from Gucci’s own past. The result is an exceptional range of fabrications and skins which are extraordinarily rich, effortlessly wearable and exclusive to Gucci. Washed napa is treated by hand to give it the softness of jersey, silk cotton velvet has been printed with micro designs, while the ultra-soft suede used on pants and jackets, is of unsurpassed quality. Treatments on precious skins have yielded cutting-edge results, such as a kangaroo blazer printed with an ocelot pattern, a new nabuck-treated crocodile safari jacket that has a powder effect, or Ostrich that has been waxed for a vintage feel. Also noteworthy is the shearling technique used on a bomber that allows for a hand knitted wool exterior and fuzzy curl interior.
ACCESSORIES
Accessories this season showcase several iconic motifs from Gucci’s history. The new Gucci Half Moon bag, a reinterpretation of a classic, is offered in nabuck treated pigskin, suede or celarius leather with a wool web strap. Oversized bags, inspired by vintage travel pieces, have incorporated a variety of iconic Gucci symbols: the diamante canvas is mixed with rich crocodile, the Web has a horizontal format on resinated cotton or nabuck pigskin, while the GG pattern is articulated in wool with leather. An eyecatcher is the ultra-slim ocelot printed kangaroo briefcase. The updated classic Gucci Horsebit Loafer, worn without socks, is offered in pigskin or hand-polished ostrich skin, has a new green lining (a vintage detail) and a sporty sole. Wingtips - in crocodile or leather - feature impeccable Goodyear constructions; while a new lace-up suede boot and leather rimmed sunglasses complete the outfit.
OUTERWEAR
Complex workmanship and specialized treatments combine to create innovative outerwear. A tricotine wool coat has been wax-coated and features a detachable shearling lining reinforced by suede netting and strips of web taping. A blond beaver coat has been knitted to give it a new, super light air. Classic items are artfully reinvented, such as a suede trench with nabuck lining, a pony skin and wool bomber, the essential camel hair coat, and peacoats with quilted nylon linings and suede details.
EVENING
Evening has been reconsidered in a bold, unorthodox way. Black is replaced with warm tones of bordeaux , ink blue and bronze, while conventional materials are substituted by fur, precious skin and velvet. Blazers in astrakhan or shiny pony skin are paired with diamante-embroidered tuxedo pants in the same tonality. Luminous velvet tuxedos, worn with gauzy silk sweaters, are given subtle micro patterns by a hot press embossing technique. Original accessories include web-striped cummerbunds, embroidered scarves and patent and suede tassled loafers.
Gucci is located at Greenbelt 4, Ayala Center, Makati City and Rustan’s Tower Shangri-La Plaza Mall.
